Serve 2013: Thank you!

On Sunday, July 28th, the annual Serve volleyball tournament descended upon Jeanne Mance park for the 8th year in a row. With the help of 23 Montreal bars and restaurants, over 60 volunteers, our staff and board, and our community, and despite a torrential downpour of rain, we were able to raise over $38,000!

The funds raised go towards the Sense Project, our peer-led sexual education program that reaches Montreal youth in high schools, group homes, community centres, and anywhere else youth can be reached. Last year, the Sense Project volunteer team facilitated a total of 69 sexual health workshops that reached 795 youth in 9 high schools, 14 community organizations, and 2 post-secondary institutions. All the workshops are based on youth’s current needs regarding sexual health. They aim to break down sexual myths, address STIs/HIV, promote safer sex practices to reduce risks, and include discussions on the importance of consent, sexual assault, and sexual decision-making.

We were truly touched by your support, and enjoyed spending an amazing day in your company! Between the dunk tank, free childcare, and sex-ed relay race, there was something for the whole family this year.

This year, Grumpy’s took home the top fundraiser prize, raising over $4,400 through their creative and amazing bar fundraising efforts. Pub St-Paul won first place in the tournament, and 40 others won amazing  prizes at this year’s first-ever SERVE raffle!

You can check out photos from the event at Nightlife.CA and on, or read about the day online at 24h Montréal (in French).

If you couldn’t make it to this year’s event, don’t worry! We’ll keep you posted next year for all things SERVE 2014!
