J2K Programs & Activities

Drop-In: Come check out what’s going on for that day, participate (or not!) in whatever activities are happening. Come chill, meet your friends, or play video games, foosball, or pool. Use our computer room with free internet, or talk with staff members about life, love, school, pop culture, technology, sex, or whatever is on your mind.

Open Gym: Access to an old-fashioned basketball court in a gym with wooden floors, brick, and glass windows that let in the beautiful daylight, three times a week for two hours at a time. It’s generally pick-up games, although we’ve been in the process of forming a team. Wednesdays 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Fridays 4:00 – 6:00 pm, and Saturdays 3:00 – 5:00 pm, fun and sweat.

Hip-Hop: Is more less the culture on how some youth relate in today’s trend through language, slang, swag, fashion, dance, music, beats, poetry, and art.
We meet youth where they’re at by offering hip-hop dance class from a professional dancer, as well as our beats parade, a freestyle session of running instrumental beats so youth can lyrically flex with a creative outlet.

Movie Night: A night dedicated to movies or documentaries either chosen by the youth or the staff. It could be something current and popular or a classic old film. We also leave space for discussion and feedback at movie nights.

: Getting youth addicted to music as a focus into their lives, by giving them access to musical instruments to express themselves. This idea had been brewing for a while and has materialized with the help and collaboration of Casa del Popolo and McGill University’s Improv for Social Change. Workshops are facilitated by professional musicians who share the rich approach of improvised music. They take place once a week for three hours from fall to late spring.
