  • Our counselling service is free of charge, youth-oriented, non-judgmental, flexible in duration and provided without territorial limitations. As with most services provided by Head & Hands, counselling services are limited to youth aged 12 to 25.
  • Head & Hands' social services provide both preventative and direct services through consultation and counseling. The counselor is responsible for psychosocial intervention that includes information and referrals, intake and assessment, crisis intervention and short to medium-term counseling.
  • The counselling service operates within a client-centered framework based on humanistic principles of equality, confidentiality and client self-determination. Our interventions consist of telephone consultations, face-to-face meetings (by appointment or drop-in), and individual and couples counseling. Those who seek counseling at Head & Hands do so voluntarily and for various reasons. Common problems faced by our clients include low self-esteem, anger management, identity issues and relationship issues.
  • This program provides free academic support in the form of individual tutoring to high school students aged 12 to 18. Tutors are recruited from CEGEPs, universities and other sources and receive letters of reference upon request. Students and tutors are then matched togeter based on schedules and proficiency in specific subjects. The pairs work together at Head & Hands.
  • To be come a volunteer tutor, please visit our Get Involved page here.
  • Head & Hands maintains a small emergency food pantry. The goal of the service is to help those in urgent situations by providing enough food for one day. Limited resources compel us limit use of the pantry to individuals aged 16-30 and to a maximum of twice per month.
  • There is perhaps no time of year that the lack of basic resources is more acutely felt than in the holiday season. Our program helps our clients during this demanding time of year. Members and friends in the community make donations to our Holiday Basket Fund which we convert into "baskets" of grocery store certificates. Donations to this fund are also used to restock our Food Pantry throughout the year.
