- Donating Securities to Head and Hands - a creative solution for uncertain economic times.
Many of our supporters have expressed concern for the future financial health of Head and Hands through the economic downturn in the Canadian economy. We share your concern, though we do not see the current situation as a crisis. A crisis ends. Analysts predict that the anticipated economic rollercoaster is the way it's going to be for a little while.
What we can do: be creative in the way we fundraise, and work with our members to ensure we are able to meet the increased demand for our services that will come along with an economic recession. No one knows where the Canadian economy will be in January so we are encouraging our members to consider making gifts of securities before the end of the year.
Note: The Canadian Government's recent tax changes have made it more attractive to donate publicly traded securities to the organizations you support.
- A gift of securities to a registered charity like Head and Hands is the most tax effective way to donate.
- Under new rules, you may donate stocks, bonds, trust units, futures and options, as well as units/shares in mutual funds and you will pay no capital gains tax on the appreciated value.
- This greatly reduces your out-of-pocket expense of making such a donation.
Advantages of Giving a Gift of Stock to Head and Hands
- Offset your taxable income when you get your tax receipt.
- Benefit from no capital gains tax on the appreciated value.
- The savings can be substantial for you.
- There is no minimum gift amount.
- The gift transfer process is easy.
A gift of publicly listed securities provides an innovative and creative way to make a charitable gift and can often help fund a larger gift than you might otherwise be able to make.
How will Head and Hands manage the donation?
All donated securities will be sold as soon as possible after they have been received. The value of your donation is determined by the closing price of the security on the day Head and Hands receives your securities into our account. A tax receipt for this amount will be mailed to you.
If you are interested in donating securities, or finding out more, please contact Leah Dolgoy, Fundraising and Development Coordinator at membres@headandhands.ca or by phone (514)-481-0277.

- Computer equipment: including any PC that's Pentium 3 generation or higher, a laptop, inkjet or laser printers, computer mice, and other equipment (scanner, monitors 14" or larger)

- Members are always kept informed on our events and invited to attend! As a member of Head & Hands, you will receive our bi-annual newsletter (and/or e-newsletters) which updates our members on our campaigns, upcoming events and activities, and volunteer opportunities. All members of Head & Hands also get a vote at our annual general meeting where we present you with key issues. Find out what's going on and come voice your opinion!
