About Head & Hands and the Sense Project
Since 1970, Head & Hands has been helping youth harness their potential to create healthy, vibrant, and caring communities. We envision a society in which all young people are full participants, inspired by the endless possibilities available to them.
The Sense Project supports Montreal youth’s healthy sexual development by giving them the information and tools to make empowering decisions about their own sexual health. Our team visits high schools, community centres, drop-ins, CEGEPS, universities and group homes to facilitate sexual health workshops for youth and youth workers.
About the Health Educator & Sense Coordinator position
The Health Educator & Sense Project Coordinator network with schools and other individuals/institutions as required to ensure the viability of the Sense Project. They establish and maintain partnerships with schools and community groups, promote the Sense Project in the community and plan, coordinate and implement training for volunteer animators. They are also in charge of updating workshops and creating new material. They develop, update, and revise health promotion materials and workshops as needed
Requirements & Assets
- Bilingual French & English
- A commitment to harm reduction and anti-oppression
- Excellent time management skills, personal organization, and attention to detail
- Post-secondary education and/or experience in at least one of the following areas: health promotion or research, sexology, social justice, social work, street work, counselling
- Program coordination or administrative experience
- Experience working with youth
- Knowledge around health issues experienced by youth
- Great facilitation skills
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Active listening skills
- Ability to work autonomously
- Experience working in a collaborative team setting
- Experience in working with youth
- Experience in working in non-profit sector
- Recent experience with high schools and/or CEGEPs
- Connections to or background with NDG and is communities
- Special knowledge of or experience with the following areas: STIs and safer sex practices,contraception, pregnancy and abortion, sexual assault, trans health, sex work, health advocacy and reproductive justice
- Experience in fundraising
- Experience working in a collective structure
- Experience in peer supervision
- Experience in training of interns and volunteers
- Experience working in a community organization and/or non profit
