About the Young Parents’ Program
The Young Parents’ Program (YPP) is a program for young parents and their children. Its purpose is to help break isolation, offer support and respite, and build a sense of community while helping parents gain new skills through workshops and activities. We cook, eat, and clean together. We learn and share concrete skills to enhance parenting, we offer workshops that range from sex-ed to photography and simply take time off to relax. Beyond the programming, the YPP is an access point, a meeting place, and a safe space for our community’s young families. About the position
This is a contract position for 6 months with a strong possibility of renewal. 25 hours per week working on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and occasionally on a weekend or evening for a special event or fundraiser. The YPP Parents’ Animator & Program Coordinator will be responsible for the parent / group aspect of the program, planning the monthly calendars and activities, special activities and outings be present during program and offer individual support to parents as required.
Requirements & Assets
- Bilingual French & English
- A commitment to harm reduction and anti-oppression
- Excellent time management skills, personal organization, and attention to detail
- Program coordination experience
- Great facilitation skills
- Experience with group animation
- Strong communication skills
- Active listening skills
- Ability to work autonomously
- Experience working in a collaborative team setting
- Experience in working with parents, families and/ or youth especially empowerment based work with marginalized families
- Connections to or background with NDG and is communities
- Experience in front line work
- Experience working in or volunteering for a community organization and/or non profit
- Experience / knowledge of the Youth Protection system
- Be a parent
- Crisis intervention skills and / or conflict de-escalation skills
