Become a member of the Head & Hands Board of Directors – support our organization and community!

Head & Hands is a bilingual, non-profit, social justice organization working towards a society where young people are at the center of decision-making for their lives. We offer critical medical, social, and legal services to youth with a commitment to non-judgment, harm reduction, holistic care, education, and confidentiality.

Head & Hands is looking for motivated, passionate people to run for election to our Board of Directors! This is a terrific opportunity to contribute to the incredible work of Head & Hands!

Who we are looking for:

Head & Hands works to facilitate social change and the empowerment of marginalized communities of youth. We encourage all applications to our Board, though we are especially interested in recruiting applicants that fall within our age mandate (ages 25 years old and younger): we’re committed to creating an organization as diverse as the communities we serve. There is no need to have any formal training or prior board experience to be on the Head & Hands board.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Committed to social justice, harm reduction, and the well being of youth
  • Strong knowledge of anti-oppression
  • Knowledge and experience advocating for youth needs
  • Willing to participate in activities involving the organization’s administration in a collaborative context (including fundraising, finances, and organizational governance)
  • Attend our Annual General Meeting, Tuesday, June 17th 6 to 8pm to demonstrate a level of commitment and put forward your candidacy 
  • Available for monthly evening Board meetings (which are scheduled based on mutual availability) and ongoing committee work (time commitment is approximately 6-8 hours as a non-executive member, and 9-12 hours as an executive member including an additional monthly meeting)
  • Have regular access to Zoom and email for team communication

Assets:

  • Prior or current experience with one of these following fields:
    1. Organizational governance
    2. Fundraising 
    3. Human Relations
    4. Accounting
    5. Legal / Law
    6. Health
    7. Counseling / Mental Health 
    8. Frontline work and/ or experience in the community sector
  • Within our age mandate (25 years of age or younger) 
  • Have lived experience in the margins (racialized folks, queer and trans folks, drug users, folks who have experienced housing insecurity) 
  • Knowledge of policy work / systems change / best practice in policy
  • A connection to or knowledge of NDG

The process of becoming a Board member:

  1. Anyone interested in applying should use any format that you’re most comfortable with (whether it’s visual, auditory, or something else altogether!) to address the following four points by email:
  • Tell us a bit about yourself! How can we best contact you?
  • Why do you want to join Head & Hands’ board of directors? 
  • How does your experience (lived / professional / community) relate to or align with Head & Hands values / the points in the requirements and assets section?
  • What area of focus Board-wise would you be most interested in participating in (EX: finance, legality, policy, communications, human resources)?
